Chirag Paswan

Chirag Paswan, the leader of the Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas), is a prominent political figure in Bihar, representing the Hajipur constituency. He is the son of the late Ram Vilas Paswan, a veteran politician who held the Hajipur seat multiple times and served as a Union Minister.

Early Life and Education: Chirag Paswan was born on July 31, 1982, in the Khagaria district of Bihar. He completed his schooling in Patna and later pursued higher education in the United States, where he graduated with a degree in Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Political Career: Chirag entered politics in 2008 and became the national president of the Lok Jan Shakti Party in 2020, succeeding his father after his passing. He made his electoral debut in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, winning the Jamui seat. In 2024, he contested from Hajipur, a strategic move as this was his father’s stronghold, and he successfully won the seat, defeating RJD’s Shiv Chandra Ram by over 170,000 votes

Leadership Style and Policies: As the head of the LJP, Chirag Paswan has focused on issues affecting the marginalized and has emphasized development in Bihar. His political stance often reflects his father’s legacy of championing social justice and welfare for the backward classes.

Chirag’s political journey has seen him navigating party dynamics, especially following a split in the LJP when his uncle, Pashupati Kumar Paras, took a faction of the party in 2021

Despite these challenges, he has maintained a strong support base and continues to be a significant player in Bihar’s politics.
