Jitin Prasada is a prominent politician from Uttar Pradesh, currently affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has a significant political legacy, being the son of veteran Congress leader Jitendra Prasada. Jitin completed his early education at The Doon School, followed by a degree in commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. He later pursued an MBA in Human Resource Management from IMI, New Delhi.
Jitin Prasada began his political career with the Indian National Congress and was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in 2004. In his first term, he held various committee positions and was known for his advocacy for his constituency, especially related to the development of railway infrastructure and the establishment of a steel factory in Lakhimpur Kheri.
Prasada served as the Minister of State for Steel during the UPA government, becoming one of the youngest ministers in the cabinet. He was later re-elected from Dhaurahra in 2009 after the delimitation of Shahjahanpur.
In 2021, after years of dissatisfaction with the Congress party’s direction, Prasada made a significant shift by joining the BJP. His switch was seen as an important move in Uttar Pradesh politics, particularly as the BJP sought to consolidate Brahmin support in the state.
Since joining the BJP, Jitin Prasada has continued to be an influential figure, especially ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
