Dr. Mohammad Jawed, born on June 17, 1963, in Gowabadi village, Kishanganj district, Bihar, is a prominent Indian politician affiliated with the Indian National Congress (INC). He comes from a political family; his father, Mohammad Hussain Azad, served as a six-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Bihar.
Education and Medical Career: Jawed completed his early education at The Air Force School in New Delhi and earned his MBBS degree from Government Medical College, Kashmir University, in 1989. Before entering politics, he practiced as a physician in his hometown.
Political Career: Dr. Jawed began his political career in 1989. He was first elected as an MLA from the Kishanganj Vidhan Sabha constituency in the 2000 Bihar Legislative Assembly election and was re-elected multiple times in 2005, 2010, and 2015. During his tenure, he held significant roles, including serving as the Minister of Law, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, as well as the Chief Whip of the Congress Party in Bihar.
In the 2019 Indian general elections, he was elected to the Lok Sabha, representing Kishanganj, making him a key member of the grand alliance in Bihar
He was re-elected in the 2024 general elections.
Additionally, he has been involved with various parliamentary forums, including the All Party Indian Parliamentary Forum for Tibet
Personal Life: Dr. Jawed is married to Yuman Hussain, a social worker who runs the Azad India Foundation. The couple has two sons
