Aparajita Sarangi

Aparajita Sarangi is a prominent Indian politician currently serving as a Member of Parliament from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Born on October 8, 1969, in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, she comes from an academic background, with her father being a professor. Aparajita completed her Bachelor’s degree in English (Honours) from Bhagalpur University before clearing the Civil Services Examination in 1994.

Her career in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) spanned 24 years, during which she held several key positions in Odisha, including roles as Sub-Collector, Collector, and District Magistrate in districts such as Koraput, Nuapada, and Bargarh. As the Municipal Commissioner of Bhubaneswar from 2006 to 2009, she was credited with significantly transforming the city, enhancing its urban infrastructure, and beautifying its streets. Her hands-on approach earned her immense respect among citizens​.

In 2018, Aparajita took voluntary retirement from the IAS to join the BJP. Her decision was driven by a desire to contribute on a broader scale to national development. She contested the 2019 general election from Bhubaneswar and secured a victory against Arup Patnaik of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Since then, she has emerged as a strong advocate for good governance and transparency, often making impactful speeches in Parliament​.

Her political career continues to rise as she plays a crucial role in BJP’s national leadership, serving as the party’s national spokesperson and a member of key parliamentary committees. She has won several awards, including the prestigious Shakti Samman in 2012 for her contributions to public service​
