She is the daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav, the founder of the RJD and a significant political figure in Bihar, and Rabri Devi, a former Chief Minister of Bihar. Education
Misa Bharti began her medical education at MGM Medical College, Jamshedpur, in 1993. After a brief period, she transferred to Patna Medical College Hospital for security reasons and graduated with an MBBS degree, excelling particularly in gynecology

On December 10, 1999, she married Shailesh Kumar, a computer engineer, and they have three children: two daughters named Durga and Gauri, and a son

Misa entered politics actively in 2014 when she contested her first election for the Lok Sabha from Pataliputra, though she was defeated by BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav
In 2016, she was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha
She ran for the Lok Sabha again in 2019, losing once more to Ram Kripal Yadav
However, in 2024, Misa made a significant comeback by winning the Lok Sabha seat from Pataliputra
