Shri Yogender Chandolia is a prominent member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a candidate for the North West Delhi (SC) constituency in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His political journey began during his university days at Delhi University’s Shivaji College, where he became actively involved in student politics in the 1990s. He is recognized as a significant voice for the Dalit community within the party.
In 2023, he was appointed the General Secretary of the Delhi BJP, reflecting his growing influence in the party. Prior to this role, Chandolia served as a Municipal Councillor for the Dev Nagar area in the Karol Bagh zone and held positions such as the Mayor of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Notably, he was the first individual from the Regar community to chair the MCD Standing Committee and achieved a hat-trick by winning elections in Karol Bagh
Chandolia’s electoral history includes attempts to win the Delhi Assembly elections in 2015 and 2020, both of which were unsuccessful, losing to the Aam Aadmi Party’s Vishesh Ravi. However, he remains optimistic about his prospects in the Lok Sabha elections, promising to focus on infrastructure development, including a proposed Metro link between Bawana and Narela and the establishment of a sports university in Delhi
The political landscape in North West Delhi is competitive, with Chandolia facing off against Udit Raj from the Indian National Congress, as both parties seek to consolidate their respective voter bases
