Shri Kishori Lal Sharma

Shri Kishori Lal Sharma, a prominent figure in the Indian National Congress (INC), has been actively involved in politics for over 40 years, particularly in the Amethi constituency of Uttar Pradesh. His political career began in 1983 when he was brought to Amethi by then-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as a Youth Congress representative. He played a crucial role in managing the constituency during Rajiv Gandhi’s campaigns, as well as those of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in subsequent years​.

Born in Punjab, Sharma grew up in Ludhiana, where he was active in student politics. After completing his graduation, he joined the Youth Congress and became instrumental in implementing various developmental programs initiated by the Congress Party​ His connection with the Gandhi family deepened over the years, especially following Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination in 1991, which solidified his role within the party

Sharma has been involved in significant political strategies, particularly in the Amethi and Rae Bareli regions. He was the key figure in ensuring Sonia Gandhi’s victory in Amethi in 1999 and managed both constituencies when Rahul Gandhi entered politics​ In 2024, he was selected as the Congress candidate for the Amethi seat, making him the first non-Gandhi candidate to run for this constituency in 25 years​

His contributions have extended beyond electoral politics to improving local infrastructure, healthcare, and education in the region. He has also worked in other states like Bihar and Punjab during his political journey​
