Education and Early Career
Scindia attended Harvard University, where he earned a degree in Economics and International Relations, and later obtained an MBA from Stanford University. Before entering politics, he worked as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, and he interned at the United Nations Economic Development Cell.
Political Career
Jyotiraditya entered politics following the death of his father in a plane crash in 2001. He won his first election in 2002, securing a seat in the Lok Sabha, representing the Congress Party. He was re-elected in 2004, 2009, and 2014, during which he held various ministerial roles under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, including Minister of State for Communications and Power.
In 2019, he faced a significant setback when he lost his seat to his former aide, KP Yadav, in the Lok Sabha elections. Following this, discontent with the Congress leadership led him to join the BJP in March 2020. His switch played a critical role in the BJP’s re-election in Madhya Pradesh, where he helped orchestrate the downfall of the Congress government by facilitating the resignation of 22 Congress MLAs.
