Dr. Sambit Patra

Biography and Educational Background

Dr. Sambit Patra was born on December 13, 1974, in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, into a Brahmin family. He completed his schooling at Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Bokaro, and pursued higher education at SCB Medical College in Cuttack, Odisha, where he earned his MBBS and later his MS in 2002​.

After completing his studies, Patra started his medical career at Hindurao Hospital in Delhi after cracking the UPSC Combined Medical Services Examination​ He also founded an NGO named Swaraj in 2006, focusing on social issues.

Political Career

Patra’s political journey began when he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where he quickly rose through the ranks. He was first appointed as the party spokesperson in 2011, gaining recognition for his articulate communication skills and effective representation of the party​ Despite an initial setback in the 2012 Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, he continued to make significant contributions within the party.

In the 2019 general elections, Patra contested from the Puri constituency in Odisha but lost to incumbent MP Pinaki Misra​. However, he remained a key figure in the party and was later re-elected in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Puri​.

Public Image and Activism

Dr. Patra is known for his dynamic oratory skills and has frequently participated in public debates and discussions on various issues. His commitment to cultural and traditional practices is evident from his participation in local festivals, such as walking on burning coals at the Jhamu Jatra in Puri, showcasing his deep connection to his roots​.

As of now, Dr. Sambit Patra continues to serve as a prominent leader within the BJP, actively engaging in political discourse and advocating for various national issues.
