Shri Jagannath Sarkar

Shri Jagannath Sarkar is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and currently represents the Ranaghat (SC) constituency in West Bengal in the 17th Lok Sabha. Born on January 2, 1963, in Tashuli village, Bankura district, West Bengal, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree from Santipur College in 1984 and later completed a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from Kalyani University. Before entering politics, Sarkar worked as a teacher in various schools, including Vidyamandir in Fulia, and was also involved in farming.

His political career took a significant turn when he became the general secretary of the BJP’s Nadia district unit. In the 2019 Indian general elections, Sarkar was nominated as the BJP candidate for the Ranaghat constituency after the previous candidate’s nomination was rejected. He won the seat by defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Rupali Biswas.

Sarkar is known for his active involvement in regional politics and filed a defamation case in 2021 against a social media user for spreading false information about him. He is married to Arpita Sarkar, and the couple has a son and a daughter​.
